Haliburton Forest Sketchbook

The Forest focus began with an intense period of time spent in the forests of the Haliburton Highlands when I undertook a plein air practice of drawing a tree daily (2014) which I call ‘Forest Sketchbook’.

 

The project culminated in collages of photocopies of the drawings, creating imagined and unexpected forests. Artificial Forest, is one of these explorations. 

 

I also drew long views of the forest itself, looking for the movement of the leaves and branches. One of these drawings led to a linocut print which I have printed in various ways. The print, Haliburton Forest, now hanging freely, plays with my memory of the almost constant movement of the forest.
